As an NRA Training Counselor, Sam Shock of Carolina Shooter Firearms Training offers Instructor level courses for experienced, safe shooters who wish to share their knowledge by becoming an NRA Certified Instructor. Courses at this level include Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, Home Firearms Safety, Personal Protection Inside the Home, Personal Protection Outside the Home, as well as Metallic Cartridge and Shotshell Reloading. The rating of NRA certified Range Safety Officer is available to Instructors who may be overseeing range operations.
Instructor candidates must first show a proficiency in the discipline that they wish to teach. All candidates must take a 6 hour Basic Instructor Course before taking the specific disipline(s). Each disipline is a seperate course lasting from 5 to 14 hours. For example, if you wish to become a Certified Instructor in both Pistol and Rifle, you would first attend Basic Instructor (6 hours). Then you would attend Pistol Instructor (11 hours) and Rifle Instructor (14 hours). If you later decide to teach another course, you do not need to take Basic Instructor again.
